| This workshop will be presented by Dr. Don Udell, Resource Development Specialist, of Norman Oklahoma |
The
Prairie Rose RC&D, Inc. recognizes that rural communities have very limited
resources to accomplish local economic development projects.
In response to that need, we have designed a workshop that will give
communities the tools to develop local funding to meet community needs.
The Foundation
Development Workshop will cover two very important elements of foundation development.
These two elements are: Creating a Foundation and Capitalizing Your
Foundation.
As
your organization or group seeks ways to address needs, one area of concern that
seems to be a constant in any project is funding.
Many communities and groups have extremely worthwhile projects that are
good local solutions to address their needs but lack the resources to put the
project in place. Looking to state and federal funding pools is becoming less
of an option, so other strategies are needed.
Creating a local foundation is one option.
A
Foundation is a public charity that receives donations from many donors -
individuals, families, companies and other foundations - and makes grants
according to the donors wishes to a range of charitable recipients. A WIN-WIN
situation. The donor makes a
contribution to the foundation and, in turn, the donor gets back significant tax
deductions along with the satisfaction of supporting a worthy charitable cause.
What
are some of the key facts and advantages of making charitable donations through
a foundation?
|
Wealth
is not a criterion. | |
|
Donors
can designate broad areas they wish their funds to address.
|
Most
contributions are tax deductible.
|
Develops
ownership within the community or organization. |
Making
contributions to the foundation is an opportunity to benefit the community,
achieve your charitable objectives and receive significant tax benefits all at
the same time. This creates a
WIN-WIN situation for all parties involved.
