Chelsea Triplett - daughter of Bill & Theckla Triplett, Livonia
Cara says "Having a chance to see all aspects of the office and getting to have hands on experience helped me see that I clearly picked the right internship for me. When I first started looking for an internship I had my heart set on one closer to home and couldn't see myself going anywhere else. So when Mr. Nowland came to me about the Livingston County internship I was a little apprehensive, since I wasn't familiar with the area. However, after my first week I was glad things turned out the way they did. The people were great and working there was the best job I have ever had! I can honestly say I don't have a single negative comment about my internship or the experience I'm walking away with. I couldn't have asked for a better place to complete my internship or more wonderful people to work with."

Ethan Beck - Son of David and Susie Beck, Chillicothe, MO
Ethan tells about himself and his experience as an intern below.
"Hello, my name is Ethan Beck. My parents are David and Susie Beck. My grandfather is Steve Hopper. I live on my family farm 8 miles north of Chillicothe in Sturges, MO. I am the second child of 4 kids. I have an older brother Stephen, 19, a younger sister, Juliane that is 15, and a younger brother Orren that is 12.
This year I will be a senior at Chillicothe High School. After high school I plan to go to either MU Columbia or Northwest Maryville. I wish to pursue a degree in ag teacher or ag. management.
My job at the NRCS office consisted of helping the field agents with laying out terraces, ponds and other water structures. I also helped the RC&D office with putting dry hydrants on the GPS unit. I also went out with the watershed guys to look at lakes and ponds, and the wetland guys to look at future wetland sites. Overall I really enjoyed working at the office."

Steven Beck - Son of David and Susie Beck, Chillicothe, MO.
Steven describes his experience below.
"Hi! My name is Stephen Beck. I live on a farming operation that is run by my Dad (David Beck) and my grandpa (Steve Hopper). We have about 200 cows and about 500-600 acres of grass, along with a 100 or so acres of row crops. I will be a senior at Chillicothe high school this year. Some of my hobbies are playing baseball, hunting, fishing, farming, riding four wheelers, and being in the outdoors. I love the outdoors so when I heard this internship was available through school I took the opportunity to try this internship out. It sounded like fun being able to work with conservation all day everyday. This internship allowed me to get understanding of all the practices or conservation that are out there and to see them used and how they work. This was a great summer job. I met new people who were fun to work with also. This opportunity was a great opportunity for me to understand what it’s all about. I had a lot of fun over the summer and I enjoyed it."
2004

Craig Putnam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Putnam, was our intern this summer. Craig will be a senior this fall at the Chillicothe High School. His interests are hunting, fishing and just being outdoors.

The internship was funded by the Livingston County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Green Hills RC&D. Because Jameson is interested in working in the conservation field this experience will be a valuable asset in the future.
Jameson describes his experience below.
“This past summer I was an intern for the local NRCS/RC&D office. I spent a good deal of my time working with levels, planning and laying out terraces, ponds and wetlands. I also worked on the computer printing off tracts of land from a soil map. My future plans include getting a degree in wildlife biology and finding a job as a wildlife biologist or technician. This experience has helped me better understand conservation and the work involved. This was a rewarding experience. I enjoyed the people I worked with, the tasks I did and the things I learned.”
This is the 4th year the internship with the Chillicothe High School has been funded. The RC&D Council has found it to be very beneficial to the community and the student.

Nathan Scott, agriculture student at Grand River Tech, worked at the RC&D and NRSC office this past summer as part of the summer internship program. The internship was funded by the Livingston County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Green Hills RC&D. Because Nathan wants to work in the conservation field this experience will be a valuable asset in the future.
Nathan describes his experience below.
"As the end of my junior year approached, the summer appeared to be just like any other, work at a normal teenage job and hang out with my friends come the weekend. But I couldn't have been more wrong. What I got instead was a summer job that would start me on the path to a career I had always wanted. Over my three month employment, I learned to survey with Trimble GPS, laser, Total Station, and a rod and level. I learned how dry hydrants were used, why they were used, and how they are installed. Also I helped with WRP/MoDot wetland on Hwy 36. Overall, I had a great time working for the NRCS/RC&D office, and built some relationships that will help me further my career interests down the road. I am very thankful that I had the opportunity to have the job, and my only regret is that it didn't last longer."
