The Trenton Youth Coalition is a new project started in January of 2004 to provide after school and weekend activities for local youth in the middle school grades. The facility is located in the old Adams Middle School building now called the Trenton AMS (Antiques, Merchandise and Specialties).
The project which is sponsored by the Green Hills RC&D Council has numerous partners that include the Trenton Elks #801, the Trenton Kiwanas Club, the American Legion Post #31 and other local organizations. It was started by the Trenton Elks in effort to provide fun, healthy activities for the youth with absence of a YMCA or other such type of facility.
The facility is fully functional with a full court basketball gym, also used for volleyball and local school fairs and carnivals. It is complete with video games, online computers, pool tables, ping pong tables, juke box and TV room. Also a commissary area for snacks, soft drinks and lounging with friends is available.
The project should go along way in promoting healthy life choices , drug awareness, alcohol use and tabacco avoidance. It has started as a tremendous success and is expected to grow yearly to fill the void of the loss of the Trenton bowling alley and skating rink.
